A REVIEW of Eckhart Tolle’s book, The Power Of Now:

I was first introduced to the notion that we were not our thoughts through Michael Singer’s book “untethered Soul”. Back then I got the idea, but I didn’t really get it. When I read this book, I really really got it.

Research shows that the average person has about 50-70 thousand thoughts in a day. This book argues that the majority of those thoughts are negative, repetitive, and add no value to our lives.

Since our emotions are created as a response to our thoughts, we carry unnecessary negative emotions with us each day. We wake up in the morning, get ready for our day, and metaphorically speaking, the negative thoughts and emotions also dress up and follow us out the door.

HOW WE OVERCOME THE REPETITIVE PATTERN OF NEGATIVE THINKING

 

However, when we truly begin to understand that we not our thoughts, we become an observer of our thoughts. In a given moment when thoughts arise in our minds, we recognize it for what it is–a thought. We understand that, this is what we are thinking; this is how we am feeling, and we don’t judge.  We don’t engage. We just observe.

Everything that happens in our lives happens in the NOW. However, most of us live in the past and in the future. Failing to recognize the simple fact that;
When the past happened, it was in the NOW.
When the future happens, it will be in the NOW.
All everyone has is NOW.
And the thoughts that we have about the past and the future are not our identities!
