A REVIEW OF THE BOOK, ” LOVE WINS ” BY ROB BELL :
Rob Bell has an extremely profound take on God and religion. He simplifies complex biblical teachings in ways that everyone can understand, and relate to. In this book, Rob breaks down what he believes the love of God is.
BELOW ARE THE BIGGEST LESSONS I LEARNED FROM THIS BOOK:
Love requires freedom. A person that loves another should have the freedom to choose not to love that person. Therefore, the question posed by this book is, is there freedom when God requires His ‘children’ to love and obey His commandments. And if they fail to do so, he throws them in a burning fire forever?
Is it just to throw a person in a burning fire FOREVER for the ‘sins’ the person committed during a FEW years on earth?
For a lot of people, religion is form of mental slavery. And the only glimpse of comfort lies in the belief that God will punish those who choose to not bind themselves to His rules. Rather, He will reward those who choose to obey to His rules. Such people have a need for God to REWARD them for their good deeds, and a desire for God to PUNISH others for their bad deeds.
Some people on the other hand, spend a lot of energy focused on the promise to eliminate pain and suffering in a place called heaven after death. These people consciously ignore the pain and suffering that exists right here on earth.
With the above understanding in mind, another important question to ask is this: what if heaven or hell is the peace or conflict we have within ourselves, when we are alone with our souls?
What if heaven is not a place above
or hell a place beneath?
Instead, what if heaven and hell are places right here on earth. And what we have all been invited to do is help eliminate pain and create peace within ourselves, within our loved ones, and within the strangers, we see who are suffering.
